Taking a break from Time-Suck (Facebook)
I decided today after much deliberation that I am going to take a break from Facebook. It adds very little to my life- and lately it has seemed quite one-sided. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a series of stupid “If you believe this make it your status” posts. I think taking a break will allow me to go back and cut those weird folks out of my facebook future. Yikes. Here are some things that will never be in my status:
*Troop increases
*God getting even with Haiti for voodoo or some weird crap
*Taxes being anti-American or anti-business
*Prayer in schools (yup- I said it)
There are a whole bunch more- but for now- I am taking a break from Facebook, so what I will never put in a status is immaterial. I simply got to a point where it was not adding to my life to hear this silly blather from folks. I would rather spend my time pruning and moving plants than hearing about some kid’s soccer team, or following a link to some stupid video of a dancing cat.
Cynical? You bet. Facebook friends are people you don’t really interact with on a regular basis for the most part. I have more “friends” from high school than I actually had during high school. These people wouldn’t speak to me back then! Why am I friends with them now? Hmmm….I don’t know the answer to that question.
I have decided to keep the friends who ACTUALLY email me during my absence from Facebook. This morning at 9am I had 237 friends- I bet of that number only a dozen will go out of their way to get in touch with me. I will keep you posted on this experiment as it progresses.

I will miss you!
It’s funny… I spent so much time explaining why I wasn’t on there, and now I spend a lot of time during my day checking other’s status… all a stay-at-home mom in the middle of nowhere can do to keep her sanity. I have not reached my limit yet, but probably will soon ;o)
This is funny… you are getting off and I was just considering if I should get on. But maybe no. Your reasons are compelling and largely the ones that I have used to never start Facebook. FMRT (Friend Me Real TIme), Ingrid
I will totally be your friend in the real world ; ) I’m thinking we should kick it old school- like actually get together- in person- and talk!
Please don’t write us off. We never sent you animals or plants (only real ones) or any of that silly stuff and we still love you.
I get a kick out of Facebook although I generally only check it about once a week when I then have to spend a certain amount of time hiding or ignoring different farm animals etc. that have been sent me. However, I like dropping a line to old students, snooping on comments made to Anne about various pictures, checking out Kirstin, and generally getting an overview of what’s occupying the nieces and nephews. If Facebook starts charging or if it gets more cluttered I too, will probably drop out.
